as the oceans that surround us inch closer, may we meet them with an ocean of our collective mind, of diverse possibility. saltwater, waves. tides pulled by the moon share common kinship with us, as a majority composite of our bodies are water, salt and blood. the moon pulls us, pulls the water in rising seas and shrinking bodies. as water spills into homes of transformed earth, streets paved by petroleum and rock, might we find new ways to stay afloat. may we listen to the wisdom of creatures who have known this water infinitely, deeply. dreamer, teacher, world-creator alexis pauline gumbs speaks of dorsal technology, the orienting of a fin which allows these beings the ability to choose. against tidal currents, against the weight of oceans, they adapted to decide that positionality. evolved agency. in the context of capitalism, as we are swept from our own sense of being by a reduction to our ability to produce, may we grow dorsal fins, too? may we locate the agency to choose our direction, always in the motions of love, waves of spiritual guidance, tides of presence that bring us back down. as water flows higher, may we find our collective breath— planetary breath shared with the oceans of salt and bones.
